There’s a new virus spreading throughout the cell phone community. A new ‘disease’ that has plagued many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users. This condition frustrates, confuses, and even anger users, sending them into a panic!
“My phone stopped working!”
Those are four dreadful words you never want to hear yourself say. Unfortunately for many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users, the “Touch Disease” has done just that. This defect singlehandedly can stop your cell phone from working properly and leave you unable to call your mother, text your spouse, or even Snap your friends!!! So, is your iPhone touch screen not working? If you’ve answered yes, keep reading.
What is “Touch Disease”?
If your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus starts to do one (or all) of these three things, it’s safe to say that your cell phone has come down with a case of “Touch Disease”:
- The touchscreen starts to flicker
- A gray bar appears at the top of the screen
- The touchscreen becomes unresponsive
Although Apple has never officially called this defect “Touch Disease,” they have acknowledged it’s existence. Their statement reads, “Apple has determined that some iPhone 6 Plus devices may exhibit display flickering or Multi-Touch issues after being dropped multiple times on a hard surface and then incur further stress on the device.” You’ll note that Apple only mentions the iPhone 6 Plus model and not the iPhone 6. However, we’ve seen cases of iPhone 6 models coming down with the “Touch Disease.”
What Causes Touch Disease?
At this point, you understand what happens to an iPhone afflicted with “Touch Disease,” but what exactly caused the phone’s defection? Inside every iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus there is a Logic Board (the main circuit board) and two Integrated Circuits (also known as IC Chips). The IC Chips allow touching the screen to generate an action.
Under stress (normal usage or dropping the phone repeatedly), the Logic Board can bend. When the Logic Board bends, the IC Chips can disconnect from the Logic Board, which prohibits the the touchscreen from working.

The inability to use the touchscreen of an iPhone may be the most frustrating situation imaginable. We’ve seen the panicked faces of customers burst through our doors on the verge of crying who are unable to ‘like’ their friend’s Facebook post. Trust us; you don’t want to be in their shoes.
How is Touch Disease Fixed and Who Can Fix My Phone?
There are two ways to cure “Touch Disease.” Either the Logic Board needs to be replaced, or the IC Chips need to be re-soldered back onto the logic board. This isn’t something you can do on your own. Therefore you’ll need to have your iPhone repaired by an expert.
Board level repairs are repairs that are completed on the motherboard, just like an IC Chip repair. Please note that there are IC Chips other than the TOUCH IC Chip. These other IC Chips, if they are indeed defective, can be replaced at Forever Wireless’s board repair center.
Apple has recently launched a repair program for the “Touch Disease” for $149. However, this only applies to the iPhone 6 Plus and Apple will not repair the phone if it’s been visibly damaged. But what about all iPhone 6 users and users whose cell phones have been damaged? Don’t fret. We at Forever Wireless have expert technicians on staff to repair your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus smartphones regardless of model or damage.
While the Touch Disease is found predominantly in the iPhone 6 Plus, we’ve seen many cases of this issue affect the iPhone 6 model. However, as stated before, Apple won’t help you with your iPhone 6 model. But Forever Wireless will! So if you’re down with the sickness, the Touch Disease sickness that is, be sure to give us a call, and we’ll help you right away!
